Email Signatures – Vital For Your Marketing

I’d like to continue the current theme about the importance of communication skills in your emails to customers. Today I want to write briefly about the use of “signatures” in your emails. Signatures are simply a block of text that is automatically added to the bottom of every email you send out. Obviously they are great for marketing purposes, and the beauty of these signatures is that you can very easily automate them. Let’s take a closer look….

I must be honest here – I only started to use signatures in my emails about 3 months ago. It was one of these tasks I had always been meaning to do, but never got around to actually doing. Since I have included signatures. the response has been truly amazing. Emails have come back from customers “I didn’t you realise that was your site”, “I never knew you did that” etc. More importantly using email signatures has led to an increase in sales. I know that for a fact – I have sent emails to customers, they have clicked on one of my signature links and spent money with me.

So, our signature goes underneath. Obviously we would use this space to bring to our customer’s attention any other web sites, products or offers we may have, together with the relevant links. This is the actual signature that I use on the bottom of every email – feel free to adapt that to your own purposes:

How do you set up your signatures? Let’s have a look at the most common email program – Outlook. This is very simple to do:

  1. Tools > Options
  2. Click the “Mail Format” tab at the top
  3. Click “Signatures” near the bottom
  4. In the “Email Signature” tab click “New”
  5. Enter your signature text in the block at the bottom
  6. Click “Save”

That’s how easy it is! For web based email accounts such as Gmail, Hotmail there are options to do the same thing. So – add your marketing signature text to your emails TODAY, before you forget about it!
