Welcome to this site, I hope you enjoy your stay. The word ‘blog’ is a shortened version of ‘weblog’, or if you like, a diary. This site is going to be an online recorded diary of events in my life for the next few months. So who am I and why am I doing this and why should you care about yet another blog on the internet?
First off, as you’ve probably already guessed, my name is Robert Black. I am 44 years old, married to a beautiful Turkish lady (no doubt she’ll read this blog so I’ll get into trouble if I don’t write this!), presently unemployed, and living in the north of England. That’s actually a picture of me in the graphic header at the top of the page – no I haven’t done that to be vain but I wanted to show that I am actually a real person and not just another anonymous internet warrior.
Why have I started this blog? The clue is in the tagline on the header graphic “The Mobile Independence Internet Challenge”. This site is actually going to be a written and visual recording of the next few weeks and months of my life. Until 6 weeks ago I was running a very successful business here in the UK, which I had been operating for 22 years. I sold that business at the end of 2007 and in the next few weeks I am emigrating to Turkey to start a new life there.
Neither my wife nor I have a job to go to in Turkey and it’s not really an option to transfer my old business there. So initially we are just going to be living off our savings. When the money runs out, that’s it (gulp!). For the last 12 months or so I have been researching ways of making money on the internet. The attraction of that to all of us I guess, is the dream of travelling or being anywhere in the world, and as long as we have a laptop and an internet connection, we can earn money.
That’s the theory we’ve all heard – I decided some weeks ago to “burn my bridges”, sell my house and my business in the UK. Then to challenge myself to live and earn money independently from anywhere in the world (in my case Turkey). Hence the tagline “Mobile Independence Internet Challenge”. I want to see if it is possible from a standing start and with very little knowledge for me to be financially independent and mobile (i.e. anywhere) – my challenge to myself.
So why should this blog be a must-read for you? Well, if you have ever dreamt of travelling the world for a longer time, or even emigrating to another country and you want or need to earn money at the same time, then this blog is for you. If you too have been inundated with mailshots, emails or ads on web sites promising you that there is a fortune to be made on the internet, then this blog is for you. If you are sceptical about making money (any amount of money) online, then this blog is for you.
Either I will succeed, or I will fail. If I fail then hopefully I will have detailed the failed steps for you, so you know what to avoid. If I succeed, then if you too want to succeed, all you have to do is copy what I have done! I am a complete Internet Marketing newbie, as of today I have made zero money online, that’s £0.00 or US$0.00 at today’s exchange rate of 1.95 🙂
I will be posting several times a week, to let you know how I’m getting on, tell you a bit more about myself, share ideas with you etc etc. As I learn new things, I’ll pass them on to you – what works and what doesn’t. I’m sure it’s going to be a hell of ride whatever happens so why don’t you come along?!
