Confessions Of A Resale Rights Junkie

In the previous post we looked at the typical elements contained when you buy Resale Rights (whether PLR or MRR) to an information product. The most basic would be just the product itself (an ebook, a piece of software, some graphics etc) with NOTHING else included. Far too many Resale Rights packages are put together like this, with apparently attractive prices to match – “Buy 200 Information Products worth at least $2500 for only $7!!!”. Even worse are the “free packages” – “Download 100 free ebooks just for signing up to my newsletter!”. Here’s why they WON’T help you…

  1. Most, if not all of them are junk. Think about it – why would someone give away 100 plus quality ebooks for free?
  2. Many of them do not come as PDFs, but in “executable ebook” format. I have a real “bee in my bonnet” about these types of “ebooks”, it’s a subject for another day but in essence the information in these “executable ebooks” is stored online, you are directed to a web page. So you need an internet connection in the first place to view them, and you are totally dependent on the web page still being there. Quite often this is not the case…..
  3. How many other people have downloaded exactly the same package as you?
  4. Unless you’re already an expert, what use are 100/200/whatever diverse resale rights products to you when they come without any sales pages, graphics, etc? Sure you’re all excited as you download file after file imagining yourself to be the next IM guru selling all this stuff. Do you know how you’re going to sell them without even a sales page?
  5. The key to success online is to market in clearly defined niches. So you’ve decided to target the “healthy eating” niche – OK not a bad choice. Suddenly you’ve got all these products ranging from “Take care of your Aardvark” to “How to get your web site on every page of the first 100 pages of Google by Tuesday” to “75,000 assorted web site templates”. Easy to get distracted, huh?
  6. With so many products it’s not difficult to overlook checking whether you actually do have a resale rights license. I’ve made that mistake – bought resale rights packages from a very reputable source, listed them all on eBay assuming that everything was OK. That got me banned from eBay for 2 months (more on that story in another post). After complaining to all and sundry about how unfair eBay were, I had a close look at the resale rights licenses. Some stated “not to be sold on eBay”, some clearly stated “copyright remains with the author – may not be resold under any circumstances”. Whoops…and remember, these came from very respectable and well-known sources and other people continue to list the same products on eBay

There’s actually lots more reasons why these packages cause more harm than good, but let me just state what I consider to be the most important reason. Do you recognise this?

“You get very excited at suddenly owning all these fantastic products and the $$$$ signs light up in your eyes. However you cannot decide what to sell first – there is just so much choice – and so you do nothing. That doesn’t stop you frantically downloading the next package “this will come in useful one day” and so the cycle continues. In the end there are hundreds if not thousands of digital products collecting digital dust on your hard drive”

Congratulations – you are a Resale Rights Junkie. How do I know this? Because I was/am one too. Approximately 50GB of Resale Rights stuff on my hard drive – that’s right FIFTY Gigabytes. It wasn’t until I spent literally a fortnight sorting through all this stuff that I realised most of it was junk. All this stuff had caused me to lose focus on what I originally set out to do. Does that sound familiar?

So what’s the answer?

  • What if there were a place where you knew IN ADVANCE what was contained in a Resale Rights package?
  • Where every product was guaranteed to come with a sales letter and a graphic as an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM?
  • Where you could tell IMMEDIATELY what extra marketing material (ready made site, articles, press releases, ecourses, etc) was included?
  • Where EVERYTHING was neatly sorted into categories so you could find right away what you want?
  • Where you AREN’T paying $27…$47….$97…..$197 per product?

In short, a kind of online “Resale Rights Warehouse” where you pay “factory outlet” prices not “retail” prices…where you just get what you want rather than being forced to buy 137 different products for $57 when you only want 3 of them…….

That would cure you of your Resale Rights Addiction wouldn’t it?

More tomorrow.
